Got a Video camera

And cannot figure it out.

Bought a Sony DCR-DVD108 uses the mini discs. Tried it tonight to video my daughters Christmas concert at school. It is dumbass friendly unit to capture the video, but..... i can get the video to play on the little screen on the camera, but will not play on the computer. Nor do I see anything that is playable on the disc. Is this stuff that complicated? If so I am taking the thing back or selling it on Ebay and buying bike parts. I finalized the CD after we got back home, and no videos on the CD to DL to the computer, I unfiniliazed the DVD and still nothing to DL. There is data on the CD, but nothing that looks familiar. I tried to read the manual, it might as well be written in Chinese. Does anybody have the cliffnotes on this DVD contraption?

Re: Got a Video camera

Did it come with a Sony specific capture software program?

Re: Got a Video camera

Yes. And no it is not installed. Thought it would still play without it.

Re: Got a Video camera

Are you sure your PC recognizes 8cm sized DVDs?

I'm thinking you need to install the capture software first, but I could be wrong. I'm not really into the video end of things.

Re: Got a Video camera

  • For movie files, right-click the VIDEO_TS folder.
  1. Right-click on the desktop and then click Paste.NOTE: The folder and all the contents in the folder will be copied to the desktop of the computer.
  2. On the computer desktop, right-click the newly copied folder and then click Rename.
  3. Type a new name for the folder.
  4. Press the ENTER key on the keyboard.
NOTE: This solution only applies to DVD-RW, DVD+RW, and DVD-R recorded with a DVD Handycam® camcorder.

Do you see the VIDEO_TS folder?

Re: Got a Video camera

Have you tried plugging the camera into the pc with a USB cable? That may work something like an external hard drive if you leave the DVD in the camera.

Re: Got a Video camera

What do you have on your pc for DVD burning software? I use Nero and it should handle the files from your camera.

Try it here
for free...I think

Try double clicking the .VOB file or opening Windoz™ Media Player and going there to open it.

Re: Got a Video camera

UPDATE: after trying to figure this stuff out for about 1 week. I have come to the conclusion that Sony is at fault here. I had the Sony 108 and returned it al all the DVDs and the 4gig memory card for a JVC GZ-MG130. No more discs or memory cards to buy and 7 hrs of video before having to DL to the computer. I will try this one out and see how it is.
