Ah...eh?

Anyway, liked this bit:

Quote:
RACING KIT
Every 1098 R is equipped with a racing kit designed exclusively for use on the track that has a pair of carbon “102dB” silencers to increase power and a dedicated ECU. The ECU enables the activation of the DTC (Ducati Traction Control) system with eight available profiles able to be selected through the instrument panel’s digital display.
A couple years, and our proletariat bikes should get it too!

I've been patiently waiting.

600RR weight with RC51 power

What did a new 749 sell for? I hope they release an 848R with that trick traction control, I don't know if I can wait a year for it though.

Re: New for '08

Man, anybody wanna buy a 1098S? Can you imagine one of those 1098R's? Holy crap! *

Quote:
The new 1098 R is the most powerful and lightest twin-cylinder bike ever produced by the Borgo Panigale factory, with the highest torque/weight ratio of any sport bike available. A total of 180hp is on tap for this new Superbike, together with an amazing torque value of 100 lb/ft. The weight figure also confirms the racing origins of the 1098 R: 364 lbs puts the bike at the forefront of this category. The 1098 R is supplied with a racing kit for track use. This is made up of a pair of “102dB” carbon mufflers and dedicated ECU, which boost the already exceptional performance of this new twin-cylinder Ducati. With this kit the rider can also activate dialog between the ECU and the DTC (Ducati Traction Control) system, which is fitted to a production bike for the first time ever. The racing kit will also boost power output to 186 bhp. The 1098 R will be available in a Red Monoposto configuration, with an MSRP of $39,995.
And a wet clutch on the 848? Who'da thunk it?

*And God no, I'm not serious about parting with the "S" for an "R" (but if the daughter wasn't in college...)

Re: New for '08

A two year unlimited mile warranty even on the R? The bike Ducati advertises as the trackday/racing bike and knows (wants, even) will be on the track?
If that is the case and they honor it, that is amazing.

Price of a Japanese 600 + ~$3000 and a kick in the balls.
But with their new warranty and maintenance plans it actually looks like it may be worth it.

Yeah, I'm expecting it to be around $15k.

Agreed on the warranty/maintenance fronts.

That white one is just dead sexy.

Re: New for '08

I saw in two different places that pricing is supposed to be $12,900 for the 848. I've already contacted dealers in Des Moines and Omaha, NE.

Re: New for '08

Saw that this is the maintenence schedule for the '07 and newer.

Quote:
Bikes from MY 2007 and on:
Service "A": within 6 months or 1000 km / 600 miles
Service "B": within 12 months or 12.000 km / 7.500 miles
Service "C": within 24 months or 24.000 km / 15.000 miles
Service "D": within 36 months or 36.000 km / 22.500 miles
ecc...
Anyone know what the costs are that go along with these services? Ballpark even? I truly am wanting one of these and just trying to decide if it is practical enough. Ok, practical isn't the right word to use, there isn't anything practical about a Ducati. Feasible would be a better word. I'm calling the insurance company right now.

I wouldn't expect it to be that much man... The 1098 for MY2008 is $15,999 if I haven't read incorrectly. I can't imagine a non 'S' being only a grand cheaper than the 1098...

Re: New for '08

bwhip, how much do the required services typically cost? Is ownership cost excessive?

It used to be excessive compared to most, but the 1098/848 etc. series seems much more geared to lower maintenance frequency and cost. I've only got about 1,600 miles on mine so far, so I can't tell you for sure. Being such a new model/generation, I'm not sure there's much data yet on how problematic they might be. I know that during the warranty period, they want the dealer doing everything, including oil changes, to maintain the warranty status.

I read that you had to have them do all the services to maintain warranty but I didn't realize it included the oil changes, that's retarded. I'm pretty sure that I'm more careful and more likely to do it right than the average tech that would be working on it.

Too late, Sunbert. I already have it in writing that I can get one. Witnessed, too.
