Re: 1098S - First (Track) Impressions

Got to race it for the first time this past weekend. Now that I have some protection installed, and got my usual Michelin PR medium rear, and PR-C front installed, I could really get on it and see just what it could do.

What a bike! I love this baby.

I can't say enough about the brakes. Stunning. I haven't even begun to figure out how late I could brake with these, because they just stop you so quickly. Every lap I keep thinking, "Okay, I can brake a little later here, or take more speed in here," but I still have a long way to go. They're just that good. Wow.

The power is just sick, and it lays it down so nicely. Exiting a corner, if you want to go by someone, just twist that throttle and hang on.

Not sure yet if I'll install a slipper clutch. So far I've found the bike to behave pretty well entering corners while downshifting twice, hard on the brakes, so we'll see. I'd sure love a quickshifter, though.

I've got to get new footpegs for these rearsets. It sucks having your feet slip off the pegs when hard on the brakes into a corner.

Tried hooking up the datalogger, but for some reason I couldn't get it to turn on, so I haven't been able to see how it works yet, which is a bummer.

I managed to do much better against my two main "rivals" in the Twins GTO class yesterday than I did on my RC51. In the first race weekend, the guy on the Mille beat me by .005 second. In the third race weekend, the guy on the 1098S beat me by about the same. Yesterday I beat the Mille by 27 seconds and the 1098S by 23. That's worth at least 20 grand, right?

$700-$800 a second? Nice improvement. Some might say you cheated though

At least! There's probably a 'Priceless' joke here somewhere, if my brain wasn't fried from a long day.

I'm really surprised you improved your times so quickly - The Duc makes crazy power, for sure, but your RC51 wasn't exactly down on power. Does it handle that much better than your old bike?

You're making me wish I was hanging on to the 999.

Good stuff, either way. Keep up the reports.

Thanks. Who knows - maybe those guys were having off days or something. It was on the west track, where the others were on the east, so they can't be completely compared.

But yes, the bike is better in every way. 30+ more horsepower, significantly better brakes, much lighter, better suspension, etc. Hard not to be better with all that, I guess!

These should help me go a little faster. Sweet new Sato rearsets, complete with "1098" engraved in the heel guards, along with a PCIII with Kyle map and a Quickshifter. Dan Kyle makes me do very bad things...

Re: 1098S - First (Track) Impressions

Just got the new PCIII map from Dan Kyle, which is reported to be even better than the one he did previously. I'll get a chance to test it out next weekend, along with the new Quickshifter setup I installed.

The dyno report using the new map sure is impressive. It's on his bike which has similar mods to mine - Full Termi, Race ECU, PCIII, with pump gas!

I'm pulling one of your spark plug wires at Grattan next year.

Those are some great numbers, 'whip! You should do a few dyno pulls to see how close you are to that.

Definitely makes me wonder. I may have to dyno it, although according to the calculator here, I'd be down about 12HP because of the altitude here.

What about torque? That's some pretty impressive numbers.

That doesn't include torque, which is a bit disappointing since it came from Dan.
