I bought it (preordered it when you first could, waited 2 years for delivery) because I absolutely loved the way it looks. Still do. However, it's pretty uncomfortable to ride. I could easily fix that, as Ducati makes bar risers for it for a reasonable price. Thing is, I have 2 street bikes, the 929 and my older Duc. After taking KSSS last year, I've decided that I'd rather have a dedicated track 600 rather than another street bike. Soooo, once I sell it, I'm hoping to get a 600!

Re: Ducati 1098 First Rides

I was hoping that with the lower price they would have upped production to meet the demand that will no doubtedly come.

Yeah, but it is an all new bike... no doubt they will have some produciton issues... I would imagine they are relying on a higher volume to help ofset the decreased MSRP.

They have no reason to...Superbike is dominated by inline 4s. Unless of course they do up the displacement limit...then who knows.

Re: Ducati 1098 First Rides

I also asked what the new bike has done to 999 sales. Here's how it went:

"List price on a 999 was 25k. Blue book on a 1 y/o 999 is now 10.5k. Whould you buy a new 999 or a 1098 right now?"

Re: Ducati 1098 First Rides

As soon as I laid eyes on the 916 many moons ago, I fell into instant lust. The 999 had the opposite effect

However, the new Duc is drop-dead gorgeous and I've got those old, familiar feelings again

Actually for 10 grand...maybe...whoa let me rethink that...actually I am so used to Duc prices being so high I automatically thought 10k was a bargain until I remembered the price of the 1098.

Used maybe. But the question is that if you are buying a NEW duc, there's no way someone is going to go for the 25k 999 over the 15k 1098.

But this is also assuming that my local dealer isn't full of crap when he says that they won't mark up the 1098.

Re: Ducati 1098 First Rides

Hmmm...waiting list until March at the earliest and the bike just came out so the poser riders with a lot of disposable income probrably dont know about it yet...wait till they have their agents call the dealers to order one or two...

Re: Ducati 1098 First Rides

The local dealer here said they have three coming for 2007 and that they're all sold. He said it will be almost impossible to get any more, as they have pre-sold almost all Ducati will produce for the year.

Re: Ducati 1098 First Rides

The 1098 is the first Duc about which I've thought: "I could see buying one of those..."

Like most everyone else on the planet, I wasn't keen on the 999's styling...but this one hits closer to the mark.

I like it!
