I guess I'm glad I didn't get a deposit in...

Re: 1098 stalling?

Rode with a a guy on a 1098 and witnessed the stalling all day. I would love to have a duck but i won't deal with the maintance costs of the beasts. Whats the valve adjustment's cost on those? And isn't it like every 6000 miles?

As I learned from my Triumph, I don't like being that far from the dealer... Esp with a non-jap bike.

I still want one. The guys who use that mad horsepower to go by me at the track don't seem to be stalling.

Fixed that for you. I have Italian equipment in my shop, which has cured me forever of the lust for anything made in that particular country. Maybe a really nice die cast model, but nothing I'd have to maintain..

I think I'm just getting old... When I read that it was less comfortable than a gixxer or zx-10r, I thought to myself, good choice not to buy one...

Re: 1098 stalling?

Have you seen the new Cycle World? The 1098 was the winner of the big, world-wide MasterBike 2007 contest. 9.79 second 1/4 mile, 150 hp, 83 torque, 410 lbs dry weight.

Re: 1098 stalling?

I saw about a dozen of them at NHIS the week before last and they all seemed to be running very well.

Damn, that bike laid down a 9 second quarter stock?

Yep - I think it was the 'S' model with the Termi system, but that's pretty amazing. They said they were very surprised it wound up being the 1/4 mile champ of all the bikes they were testing (including all of the I-4 literbikes).

Re: 1098 stalling?

I was talking to an owner at Le Mans and he confirmed his 1098 (non S) had this problem and they were organising a recall (UK and informal) to update the electronics.

1098S did not win world-wide Masterbike 2007 test. MV Agusta F4 312R did. Ducati 1098S was eliminated in first round in "Italian Sportsbike" category. Mad horsepower, uber-Ohlins and still no lap times to compete and Masterbike is all about lap times...

Maybe I was confused because it won Cycle World's "Best Superbike" award in their top ten of the year in the same magazine, and they did rave about it quite a bit.
