Re: Ducati 1098 Forum

Why do you want to send users away from this forum, to another forum, when the idea is to get them to talk about the 1098 here?

My local Duc dealer told me tonight that Ducati was backordered until June; factory can't keep up. But then he also said that he wouldn't mark up the 15k sticker price. riiiiiggggghhhhhtttttttttt!

Re: Ducati 1098 Forum

I saw my first 1098 today in lunchtime. It had been parked on the pavement (central London) and the single-piece-suited rider (unusual in central London traffic) started it up and nosed it into the traffic before gently riding off.

I was amazed how like the 916 it was, that it had been kept small, and loved the traditional Ducati-twin sound.

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear !

Re: Ducati 1098 Forum

That youtube video showed 148 RWHP on the S model. Dude there is no debate, get it! It'll be a shame though, if Honda does make a new and improved RC for '08 and the rule change that Ducati is sure to get. + it's a first model year, I'd wait for the 2nd year even if I did have the $.

Wishful thinking of course. Honda is as tight as a frog's a$$ when it comes to new models.

The Japanese mfr's are going to have to counter with either a V-twin along side Ducati or start making 1000cc V4's. Ducati has much power in WSBK so the rule will be changed to their liking. What is Japan going to do, sit there and lose? They don't care about WSBK like they did at the turn of the century but I doubt they are just going to keep doing the same thing with the inlines. Besides, none of them (Japanese mfr's) have really done anything extraordinary lately...nothing but retool their 1000cc inline 4's every other year. Considering the price of the base model 1098, Ducati is going to sell boat loads of these things and I highly doubt Japan will let it go unnoticed.

I dunno. It would just take R&D resources away from the CBRs. I know no one has more money than Honda, but how many SVs does Suzuki have to sell before Honda gives us a new Hawk equivalent? I realize the 650 twins don't race on the "world stage", so it's not like Honda is taking a public beating, but still....

If you ask me I think a good amount of the R&D for the 08 1000rr is complete. They will most likely use what the same R&D from the 600rr and scale it up...kind of like what they did with the previous generations. While they may have a lot of work to do I dont think they will be working with a blank slate. Honda seems to build something when they want to win a race (RC51) or otherwise for some reason that no one seems to know...like the Hawk.
