Ducati 1098S

Well, if my taxes work out like I have estimated, maybe I'll get that 1098S in black. Think it is worth the extra 5k?

And yes phob, I DID start another 1098 thread!

Re: Ducati 1098S

From what I understand the "S" has the Ohlins suspension which we all know are not as good as "after market" Ohlins stuff. It also has the ECU, and Termi's. Not to mention then data logger.

All of this (except the Ohlins) can be had as options on the standard. And can be had cheaper in the after market.

I'm thinkin' the same thing. Although, I don't think the black is available in the standard edition?

Re: Ducati 1098S

Interesting... from ducatiusa.com

My dealer is sold out of the 1098—when are more going to be available?
We are currently working to secure more 1098 Superbikes for the North American market. Additionally, we will start the 2008 model year as soon as possible.

Re: Ducati 1098S

More on topic...

What sets the 1098 S apart from the standard 1098?
The 1098 S comes with fully adjustable Öhlins FG511 forks, an Öhlins 46PRC rear shock and an Öhlins adjustable steering damper. In addition, the "S" comes with forged and machined Marchesini wheels which reduced unsprung weight by 4lbs—resulting in decreased inertia and a lighter, quicker handling motorcycle. Also included on the "S" are a carbon fiber front fender and the Ducati Data Analyzer (DDA).

can someone do the math for me here and see if that more than makes up the difference? seems to me it really should.

is that really true? It lists the actual forks and shock from ohlins... are those the same as what you would buy as aftermarket items?

Re: Ducati 1098S

This is the first production model Ducati that has actually specified a model number for the Ohlins components. If it really is those components, I can give you a rough retail guess:

FG511s: 2200.00
46PRC: 1100.00
Marchesini Forged aluminum wheels (guessing from the weight reduction spec): 1500.00

NASCAR Replica paint job: Priceless

As to the fender and data logger, I have no clue.

That comes to around 4,800.00 retail just in the above components. Can you get them cheaper? probably. How long until they are available from retail distribution? at least a few months.

Re: Ducati 1098S

Sounds like it'd be worth it to me. Giving the actual part #...it they were watered down, they'll be sued.

The resale will be better than the regular with the added parts too.

Abtech, don't forget the pipes, ECU/DDA, not to mention resale.

Seems like a very good buy to me.

As long as it isn't stolen or blown over by a chopper.

I'm not sure if the exhaust is included... It is in the pictures but I can't find text that says that the S includes the termi system.

Re: Ducati 1098S

Yeah, I saw HD mentioned it, but it's not in that summary.

Some kind of pipe is mandatory on the Duc.

The termi sounds awesome on that bike... even on a crappy youtube video. Didn't I post that on one of my 63 1098 threads?

Re: Ducati 1098S

I think the tricolore is the one that comes with the Termi pipes?

At any rate, it does sound like the S version is worth it, and I like the black with red frame!

I think he should start a thread about the tricolore now.

Re: Ducati 1098S

The S is worth it. The parts are the trick stuff. The bike doesn't really need anything (IMHO), just ride it home and you are good to go. I read the S model has 10 additional HP as well. For what the bike costs, it's worth it. I spent more than the 20k pricetag on my RC.
