Well, it doesn't suck...

Nice bike, Bwhip! I had the chance to ride a 749 (albeit not a Larry Pegram's backup bike), and I have to say it was a blast to ride. Enjoy, and good luck racing it this year!

lucky bastid...

Will they fit a "real" 848?

Needs safety wiring
That's surprising.

I'll try to get some video with sound at my next trackday, coming up soon.

The rearset bolt locations are different on the real 848 vs. my fake 848, so they won't work - sorry.

There is a fair amount of drilling for safety wiring, but since it was the backup for parts, they didn't really need it on an ongoing basis, apparently.

I was pretty sure that was the case.

Does the new bike have Ti con rods? Have you read about the Martini 1098 that was built for the pres of Ducati North America?

Mostly it was just cosmetic but they did rebuild the engine with Ti con rods and an Ergal split belt roller kit. They said that those two mods save a couple pounds of rotating weight and made it rev much quicker and more freely which kinda sounds like what you are saying about your new ride.

IME, AMA tech is VERY lax compared to club racing.

you coulda just left it alone and let me ride it.

on a side note, I had a dream this morning where I bought a white 848. does that mean I subconsciously want a Duc?

I want one consciously and subconsciously. My wife even had a dream that I bought one. That has to be a good sign.

hey whip, are the brakes on it the same Brembos that are on the new 848's, they look like it in the pics but can't tell? Just wondering how they compare on the track to the monoblocs?

Not exactly the same, but still outstanding. I'd rate the 1098's brakes a 10 out of 10, and the 849 brakes a 9.2.

I had the cast/assembled Brembos on my 999, and they were pretty good, not spectacular but good. On a lighter bike (like the 848) and with a good set of pads I bet they'd be really nice.

Somewhat off-thread, but my initial impression of the monoblocs on the Hyper is 'too strong' - and that's with 320mm discs rather than the larger 1098 variety. I also found them to be a bit non-linear: normal bite quickly followed by ferocious bite, and not much warning in between.

That's what all the reviews seem to say about the 848 and 1098's brakes that I've read. They say the monoblocs seem like huge overkill on the street but are great on the track. Then they say that the 848's brakes are better suited to the street than the monoblocs but still are very adequate on the track.
