Ducati 1098's selling out...

Getting harder to find available allocation to place a deposit on... The place I called yesterday only has 2 yellow 1098's left and I think he said 2 1098S models as well. Unknown colors. He really is just hoping he actually gets his allocation to meet the deposits he already has.

Want me to contact my local dealer? You might have better luck in this part of the country.

Well, problem is I need to sell one of the bikes prior to placing a deposit and making that commitment. I had called a few weeks ago and they still had several red 1098's available at the time. I may end up trying to sell the bike this year and get a 1098 next year

Ah let the busters get them first. They'll pay top dollar anyways. Give a little time and just get the S model. People are tripping over themselves to get one now, and for a first year model. You'll have a much easier time negotiating once the initial rush has settled down.

Re: Ducati 1098's selling out...

Surprisingly, the dealer I called was just going to charge MSRP, a 300ish freight fee and 200 something set-up... No taxes/ title since I was out of state.

Even if it's in writing, stuff changes at the last minute believe me (especially with Ducatis).

I sent 500.00 to 3 different Ducati dealers and still have three "sales contracts" for the 916 I wanted to buy the first year they were sold. Not one of the dealers honored their written contract and I ended up losing one of the deposits because the guy was just a pain in the ass and my attorney said it would cost me 3500.00 to get back my deposit.

One dealer in particular (no longer on the face of the earth) had the bike I wanted and I flew out to pick it up only to be greeted with "uh, I have at least ten people that are willing to pay big bucks for this bike, so uh I need to get another 5700.00 to sell it to you . . ."

When I showed him my fax of his agreement to sell at 15,495.00 (complete with 500.00 deposit), he said "sue me".

Caveat emptor

Now that is customer service!

I wonder if Ducati is trying to avoid that and has told the dealers to only sell at MSRP? I haven't heard yet of anyone asking over MSRP... It may only be a matter of time, but it would make sense if Ducati is trying a new image with a more affordable bike to go head to head with the japanese bikes that they would try and avoid ill will by getting gouged at the dealer. Time will tell...

Augusta Ducati \ Triumph has yet to have any deposits made on a 1098. They will have some on the showroom in Feb though.

There will be a tri-color, but that's a special model.

Be careful with that, I don't know how it is there, but I know here in GA that even if you don't pay taxes when you purchase the bike you WILL pay them before you can register it...

hat's the way it works in NJ, too. If you purchase a bike from out of state, you get a certificate, I forget what it's called exactly, from the dealer. You take that certificate to your DMV and that's where you'll pay the taxes, along with the registration, and then get the title. The taxes on out of state vehicle purchases get paid to your state. Believe me, you'll pay the taxes.

That's so wrong. I deal with a Ducati dealer in PA, 3 hours from me, and it's worth the drive. He's very honest. He does all his own work and has been a mechanic for decades. He's recently given up the dealer part, as he wants to kick back a bit, but he'll still be doing repairs. When he retires, I have no idea who I'll have service my Duc.

Re: Ducati 1098's selling out...

Like most I don't really care for dealers too much, but there's a Ducati/Suzuki/Aprilia dealer just north of Milwaukee called Corse Superbikes. They are bar-none the best dealership I've ever dealt with. Everyone there is knowledgeabe, friendly, and they don't pressure you one bit. After I test rode a 749 dark, I rolled back into the parking lot only to have the guy tell me that I should now take the 999 out for a spin. When I got back no one pressured me or said anything about numbers. They simply asked me what my thoughts were and if I liked it.

I guess my point is if I were ever to buy a Duc it would most definitely be from these guys.

Oh another thing about that place: I was there near closing time on a Saturday one time and I was looking at some boots. A guy came over and helped me out with trying on some SIDIs. I thanked him for his help, and when I shook his hand he identified himself as the owner. I thought that was pretty cool that the owner was walking around helping people out.

I believe that would be Dave. They used to make every GLRRA event with their team truck and sponsored a few local fast guys on Ducatis. Good people indeed.

That's just a cool, cool place. I took some pictures in there on my first trip to Road America. We stayed at a hotel within walking distance.

Yep... Once I had the bike and went to title it, then I would pay all the license fees and taxes. But the dealership wouldn't charge me...

According to Ducati's own website there will be only red. Just look under "COLOURS".
The only variant of this will be the tri-color.

I want to say I remember hearing something about Euro bikes ditching yellow paint because of toxins in the yellow pigment. I could be very wrong, but I want to say I have heard this somewhere.
