I took the bike to have a minor repair last week. I've got an ominous call today. They found the radiator empty and a whole lot of water mixed in with the oil. Damned Aprilia!!!!
This is not only going to cost Aprilia. It's also going to cost Ducati. I was planning on buying a Hypermotard in a few months, perhaps after Grattan. Change of plans. Back to old trusty Honda. I think I might get an old VFR. I need something to commute 80 miles to work, every day.
    Damned Aprilia!!! I couldn't resist...
It was a good run while it lasted, I keep telling myself.
Now to wait for the damage report.

damn that sucks. I was thinking you had gotten pretty lucky without having it happen to you yet.

So you want a Hyper, and I've always wanted an SXV...Hmmm....

Sorry to hear. Wish I were closer, I'd recommend we do the Evl-Twn thing and dissassemble it ourselves.

So did I. Supposedly black engine case sealant was safe. I guess not. I knew I was taking a big risk... I'm too much of an optimist for my own good.

That might still happen. Depending on what the verdict is on the repair, I might just take it apart myself and attempt to put it back together, with help, admittedly.

Well that sucks, It was such a fun bike to ride... really sucks that they are having those kinds of issues with it.

Best of luck with it, and you know you've got a bike for grattan if you need it. (just keep the lap times over 1:17 please)

 Thanks for the offer. That's very brave of you. My trusty CBR is still running strong, even after a few mild crashes.

I forgot about it... Maybe I'll let you get off that old, heavy, slow piggie and ride the 600RR? I have noticed a HUGE difference in the way it handles just pushing it around in the garage... hahaha
  8. bwhip Every ride a gift

I feel your pain for sure. I've said it 1,000 times - the SXV is the most fun bike, BY FAR, that I've ever ridden. HOWEVER - the design of the motor, lack of reliability of any sort, and pitiful customer service and support are absolutely disgraceful. I will never, ever, EVER buy an Aprilia of any type again. :thumbd:

However, Juan, I can guarantee, with 100% certainty, that if you bought a Hypermotard, you would never have an oil/water mix problem. :smilebig:

I might take you up on your offer, unless you want to ride that bike after Grattan. Just kidding, man. I'd love a 600. That's what I should have bought. Or perhaps an old VFR.

100% certainty? That next to paying taxes and dying. Knowing my I'd find a way to crash into an oil tanker or something.
Being air cooled is one of the attractions I find for the hyper.

Yeah, they also have a Speed Tripple... a green one.

Well, I always wanted to take a motor apart, fix it, and put it together. Watch what you wish for, uh?

I was actually very surprised. All the research I did told me this was the most reliable motorsickles in the market. I think it might have been the "X" in this particular model. All the other ones were SV. I though SXV would be just as reliable.

What a bummer. As much as I love my bike, and love the brand, this is just NOT what aprilia needs. They could have had such a smash hit success....

Sorry to hear Juan, that's shitty.

Don't understand what it has to do with a Hyper though!

Fixing the bike, and the money I'm not going to make by selling it at the price it would have been without the issues, it's going to waste most of the money I was hopping to spend on the Hyper.

Yeah, in that case, I would not be able to sell it in parts either. At least the SXV has some nice bits here and there...
I'm going to try to fix it. If I can't, it'll be sold in parts.

Dealer called. It seems like the water pump has two broken impellers which caused water to rapidly leak into the motor. The radiator was totally empty.
I have just spent US$500 a couple weeks ago replacing the starter motor and the sprag (sp) clutch.

The current damage costs aprox. $600 in parts and about $900 in labor. They have to take the engine apart.
I've always wanted to take an engine apart and try to put it back together but I don’t know if this one would be a good one to do that for the first time.
I paid $5,500 for the bike, in 2009 I believe, might have been 2008. The bike has about 3500 miles aprox.
I need help from someone with a cold head. I want to run it over with some kind of tracked vehicle, like a tank, but I probably shouldn't do that if I want to recover some of its cost. I need help figuring out what makes more sense.

    a) Part it out and get whatever little money I can get out of it.
    b) Have the dealer fix it, and then sell it as quickly as possible.
    c) Buy the parts and try to fix it myself, and then sale it as quickly as possible.
    d) Other. Kindly elaborate in your post.

    Help, please.

Plug your nose, pay to fix it, sell it.

Sell it to someone willing to do the work themselves OR pay a dealer to fix it. Dont want to ruin your rep in the community fixing the bike yourself and then selling it without putting some miles on it.
