Re: Bigot needs to be condemned - Pt 2 - Religion
Over-moderation. Gotta love it. One of the worst aspects of the other site.
So what are the actual rules? You can only talk about the subject of the thread and nothing else? |

Re: Over-Moderation: Causes, Effects and Psychological Factors
Is it that much trouble to try to stay on topic? Diluting the thread with multiple tangents just because gets confusing over time.
If you're looking for a religious debate and stumble into politics half way through, what good is even titling a thread?

Re: Over-Moderation: Causes, Effects and Psychological Factors
Because that's the way conversations realistically flow?
No thread ever stays on topic as far as I can tell. They flow and meander just like a normal conversation would. To just arbitrarily shitcan something because you find it to be off the subject seems rather assinine, IMO. It's not like anything any of us had said was offensive in nature (which WOULD be a good reason for removing it from a religious forum), and those comments came about naturally due to the wider subject of the conversation. |

Re: Over-Moderation: Causes, Effects and Psychological Factors
Because certain members opt out of religious or political debates by ignoring the forum, we have to keep the political stuff where it belongs. It's hard to get hold of the right way and degree to moderate this stuff.
I'm disappointed because Seamus deleted the one political post that seemed to stop SheepOfConservatism, which was nearly a religious experience for me... Frankly, though, the excision could have started much earlier. Could we have moved that yellowcake argument back to politics? Yeah, maybe, but it wouldn't have gone much further. The nature of real conversation is that once the argument isn't being addressed by the person who put the issue out there, it's over. Come on, find something else to wind us up about. Nobody has said anything about Falwell yet..

Re: Over-Moderation: Causes, Effects and Psychological Factors
Mo, we're both human and have different viewpoints. I can see where you're coming from however, the thread was split in the first place for the same reason. It was taking on two lives so the competing lives were put in a rational place because, well...it's just rational.
Could I have moved the posts, yes. But then I'd have to come up with some inane thread title because it wasn't even remotely related to the original conversation. And I was feeling lazy then. Then you forced me into a corner so I gathered up all the strength I had left for today and created it anyway. So here's your thread where you can bash me for making a decision complete with inane thread title. If it gets off topic and goes on to bash other mods for what I did, I'll delete or move those posts too. But I'm going to make some coffee first, it's been a long day.

Re: Over-Moderation: Causes, Effects and Psychological Factors
Now there's an good idea! I'm making a pot right now (it's Dinzler direct from Rosenheim, take that Seamus!). Now maybe some of that yellow cake CBRVFR spoke of, or possibly, a piece of pie?
Then we'd all feel better!

The decision Seamus made was wrong, IMO. Personally, I don't see any reason to delete anything unless it's a troll, or just an over-the-top flame war. |
