Sure, housekeeping of images can create dead links. However, that's now how I operate. But I may be in the minority there. I do see your point. Further, most images hosted elsewhere are usually only relevant for a short time. So even if the link becomes dead, its not an issue.

However, you miss my point: having to save an attachment to one's machine, resize it to the otherwise small and restrictive size, upload it using the attachment feature, and then still having those pictures be incorrect size or dimension.

So while you may not want to scroll through inline images, others may not want to click through all the steps required for attached images.

All the steps? ummm I click once on the attachment and there it is . . .

It takes me about 3 clicks to upload any image I have ever wanted to attach. I don't need to copy it to the image directory of one of my websites or a service or anything else. It is very straightforward and simple. If you don't have the basic tools to put your images in a standard web acceptable format (1024 by 768/800 by 600 etc.), then it's not the forum's problem.

Dead links are an issue for anyone that hosts them (and just about anyone that views them). They make the site look bad and people have a tendency to think the owner or hostmaster doesn't care when they find them. I think dead links (regardless of age) are about the lamest thing any website could have.

You don't have to re-size images. The forum automagically does it during upload - it does increase your upload times by a scoche, however.

Yes, I have plenty of tools at my disposal for editing my images. Give me a little credit. I was merely voicing my opinion since this has been brought up as of late.

I would give you the credit except you were complaining about all the steps required when dealing with attachments, while in reality none of them are required.

Well correct me if I'm wrong, but don't any attachment, pictures particularly, have be less than 1MB and within a certain size - still necessitating resizing and editing before they are added as an attachment?

Is there a limit to size before resizing though? Is it an admin setting?

I don't remember if it was here or not, but I have tried to upload images on sites that resize and got an error message telling me they were too big. I'm old school though, I usually cut my images down, even for my powerpoint presentations. I hate the lagginess of oversize images...

I still like both of these "features" turned off though.

No, it should resize any image to within the allotted sizes. It ONLY does images however. Text/video/etc you're on your own.

No, the server will automatically re-size it. Which is exactly what that post said It's a fail safe for the people that don't know about the limit or just plain old don't re-size their pictures. It does increase server load and picture upload times but for the time being that's not an issue.

Hmmmm... I'm a member at three H-D forums, three Ducati forums, four BMW forums, and a host of sportbike forums. Hey, this is an Addicts site right? I am going through the 12 step program . Of course I don't go to all regularly. About 15 forums that I'm a member at, all coincidently vBulletin driven, and every one has thread preview and inline image posting. Every one, including the massive advrider site. Impressive to be accused of lying.

Oh sure, one can find a site like Fireblades, or this one, with thread preview and inline imaging disabled. It is certainly the admin's call, and I'm sure there's reasons why it is uniqely considered to not be a useful feature.

And hogwash one can click on a thread title, hit the server for the feed, wait for all the posts to load, and note the contents of a thread as fast as an instant preview balloon, and then enjoy that unrelated and uninteresting post/thread with the vague subject heading.

Oh well, really no problem. It was just a suggestion. There will certainly be threads here with enough subject heading clarity one will know what the content will probably be.

But how many sites will discuss things like this in a mostly civil manner (yes we have occasions )? Also how many do you have to cross off your list if there is children in the room? I compare it to a rally my brother put on that takes place in a dry county. No drunk people and no obscenity but if you want to bring your 12 year old daughter, there is also no worries. I have no problem with either but a choice is nice This is a different place and I hope mostly appeals to you, so you stay. However I would be here less if there was people cussing each other and typing 16 year old gibberish slang (I think I am the limit on bad grammar ) or porn. I can have this site up and if the boss walks up no worries as they know I am an insane bike rider already
