I've disabled it for the time being until I can find the solution to enable it on a per user basis. I can easily see it being an issue with race spoilers.

I read a page at a time (don't ask). I now have to move my mouse completely off the page to read the contents without all these balloons popping up which is relatively counter productive. If the delay were adjustable between say: 10 ms and 24 hours, it wouldn't be an issue .

The hype is low.
I'm either way on the balloon/preview issue.
As for the image tags vs. attachment, I MUCH prefer the image tags. I find that I can host all my own images with some photo service and I don't have to resize them based on size or dimensions. Quite honestly, I hate having to save a picture, edit it, resize it, then use the "manage attachments" feature to upload one or two pics. It is REALLY annoying.
And truth be told, I think the majority of the members here wouldn't post some gigantic picture to through off the size of the thread window.
Oh and pictures in signatures = teh gheyness.

Haha, true! Though given my time on site and my posts, I hardly think that would be an issue. I'm not so much the post whore, as I instead like to read and post when relevant.

Can you enable the thread preview for just a mouse over on the link itself instead of the whole box?

On a Ride
Too bad it (thread preview) is turned off again. Every other vBulletin enabled motorcycling site (a bunch) has it turned on (The vBulletin default) as a nice and handy feature, and I could laundry list them. No one complains. Not a single motorcycling site has it disabled, including the sport/racebike sites with spoiler threads.

I prefer it to save time in figuring out obscure thread titles.

I get the point. As soon as I can figure out how to make it a user selectable option, it'll be turned back on.

Hover bubbles are frequently debated about on other boards...so there isn't really a consensus. This sounds like a great solution.

That's because the site owner is vB challenged.

I have CDO. It's like OCD except the letters are in alphabetical order, as they should be.

It's annoying for those of us browsing through Remote Desktop, for example, because it takes forever for screen updates when there are tons of inline images. Thumbnails prevent this issue. Even when normally browsing, it's a pain scrolling thru all the full size images I may not want to see.
Thumbnails give you an idea of what's in the image, and you can choose to view full size if you want to see more detail.
Also, when you decide to do housekeeping on your online photo album, we end up reading threads full of broken image links. With attached images, that doesn't happen.

I do like the thumbnails as opposed to inline images and I can't stand sites with huge signatures with all these images and crap in them.
The thread preview is helpful to me since I lurk a lot and don't read every single thread.
-
My vote: I think the preview thing sucks. The size of the popup isn't usually big enough to actually show valuable info and it blocks the titles of the threads, which is more important to me.
-
I'm wiry
I like the thread preview feature, but it's not a dealbreaker.

Remote desktop? I may be wrong here, but how many of the MCADX users actually browse this forum through a remote desktop? I'm assuming here, but I would say that they are in the vast majority and therefore, shouldn't be a reason to limit the wishes of others.
Sure, housekeeping of images can create dead links. However, that's now how I operate. But I may be in the minority there. I do see your point. Further, most images hosted elsewhere are usually only relevant for a short time. So even if the link becomes dead, its not an issue.
However, you miss my point: having to save an attachment to one's machine, resize it to the otherwise small and restrictive size, upload it using the attachment feature, and then still having those pictures be incorrect size or dimension.
So while you may not want to scroll through inline images, others may not want to click through all the steps required for attached images.
