Amazing that they're using something other than the HD engines. And something liquid cooled, too, something Erik has always said he could do without.

I think he's just good with PR... toeing the HD line, doing the best with what he had.

They'll now have to change their stance on how the 1200's low-rpm torque makes it infinitely superior...

I think that would be a "could do without ... if I have to"

A few of us VFR guys had a great conversation with him when he was in Columbus for the launch of the Lightningbolt (I think that's the one). We talked sports bikes with him for a good 15 minutes (to the disgust of the HD faithful, and the HD now has cooler clothes than the BMW groups that were lined up behind him ) He definitely gave the impression he would like to do more, but found a challenge in making the most of what was available to him. I will definitely remember that conversation for some time.

It would be great to see. I would consider a Buell if this is real.

That was either an elaborate hoax, or someone sneaked the vid out there before it was cleared...

Re: Rotax-powered Buell 1125R!!!

Fascinating. I'm assuming the '146 horsepower' is at the crank, not the wheel. If I'm wrong, this baby could be a 1098-killer.

Like Depo, I wonder if Buell has Superbike aspirations? Problem is, I can't see them going to WSBK, and I haven't heard AMA contemplating a displacement rule change ala WSBK.

Re: Rotax-powered Buell 1125R!!!

If Harley (read 'Buell') wants a change, the AMA will trip over their collective dicks ripping pages out of the rule book.

Having said that, I say BRAVO to HD/Buell for moving ahead with this. I hope they are careful to make the rest of the bike work well.

Good on them for doing this but I'm not sure how successful it will be in consumer sales. The VROD is the only Harley I'd ever consider owning(and that's a big IF) since in my opinion it's the only decent offering HD has and it really wasn't a big hit with the purists.

I wonder if Harley feels like they need to get people like us interested in their product?

40 years ago (OK, maybe a bit more), a Harley was sporting tackle afterall. Japan Inc became what they are from the world's best motorcycle manufacturer showing them how to do it about 60 years ago.

At some point, the chopper craze will peak (if it hasn't already) and the baby boomers are being followed by kids more interested in rice than booming V8s....

Re: Rotax-powered Buell 1125R!!!

... Make that "Street Rod"... the V-Rod is a pig. BTW the Street Rod is discontinued for '08.

THis thing will have to be legitimately better than its competition to conquest Jap bike guys. It certainly won't win over Harley purists.

Re: Rotax-powered Buell 1125R!!!

Buell Motorcycles | Browser Compatibility

Official site up...

Still a stupid belt drive (moved to the left side, presumably so as not to have to alter the gearbox) so you probably have to pull the clutch in all the way every time you shift...

375lbs dry weight claimed. Dry-sump oiled, 12.3:1 compression, 103mm bore, 61mm throttle bodies, lap timer, 8-piston front caliper, adjustablew rearsets...

-Cush drive located in the drive sprocket to reduce unsprung weight
-pivotless frame with engine as a stressed member
-Vacuum-assisted slipper clutch
-CHain-driven intake cam... exhaust cam is gear-driven off the intake cam like the new Aprilia V4
-DOHC with little under-slung rocker "fingers" and shafts

Confirmed that it is indeed a Rotax motor. 72' with triple counterbalance shafts.

I'm sure a chain kit will be forthcoming. It just needs the belt to be HD/Buell compliant when it leaves the lot.

Low seat height

$12,000

Nevertheless, I hope it does really well. They're pretty good about test riding at Buell...

Re: Rotax-powered Buell 1125R!!!

This is great for american motorcycles! If it was good enoff and i was interested in anything bigger than a 600 i would love to have one.

Using an outside motor Co is inline with what they have always done. Doesn't porsche develope all the HD motors?

We asked for it.

I dunno...the sound of a Rotax motor may make me wanna put my left foot on the ground and back it in.

Ugh, I posted this in the 'Buell' forum and it got deleted as a repost. Anyways, I am really going to look into this bike as the rotax engines and Buell chassis are both great individually, and together this bike may be a homerun.

It was a repost but YOU actually posted in the right forum. I'll move this thread.

Re: Rotax-powered Buell 1125R!!!

The radiator scoops are kinda clunky looking, but overall the bike looks pretty cool in a Buell sort of way.
I'm pleasantly surprised they finally got away from HD Sportster-based engines. If anything, I would have expected a VRod motor.
