So I want an XB9SX.
Hey so i've been eyeballing the 2009-2010 Buell XB9SX. I ride the snot out of my 1980 Honda CX500, and although I love how classic my bike looks, let's face it, it's older, stuff is wearing out or worn out, it's a pain in the neck to start in the morning or when it's cold, and it just doesn't corner as good as I want. So I got to thinking maybe I should buy a much newer bike. I don't particularly care for the typical japanese street bikes, although I do like my buddy's 2005 Yamaha R6 and another friend's CBR 600 RR. But as soon as I saw the XB9, I was in love. I love naked bikes, and man it looks good to me. And they seem to be well priced. Anything I should look out for or anything I should know in general in regards to this bike?

Why change? You already have a comparable bike.

I've always like the XB12S's. It even got so bad a couple of years back that I almost put a deposit down on one. I think they are great bikes, the handling is amazing - no Japanese bike can compare. Plus they fit my personality (a little weird). Plus the Sportster-based engine has a bazillion of aftermarket parts available. It was just something about the air-cooling that kept me away.

Going forward, as you know, parts and service are supposed to come from the Harley Dealership network, so I think it would be worth your time to see which of those dealers in your neck of the woods have enough commitment to Buell customers to follow through with that.
There is a core of fiercely loyal users, and the bikes are being sold at a steal, so if it floats your boat, go for it. If you've kept that CX running all this time, you clearly know how to take care of a motorcycle.
Welcome!

lol i've only had my CX since november. We have a harley/buell dealership just 80 miles from where I live. I think i'm going to get one, I like how odd it is, and how it sounds etc. And the price is definitely right.

Welcome to the site. Buells are a fun bike for sure and they do handle great too.
See you at GRATTAN

I spent a couple hours this weekend kicking tires at one of the local HD dealerships this weekend that also happens to have the only unsold 2010 XB12CR(?) in the country. This last batch of Buell's looks pretty decent, admittedly. Good luck with the purchase, let us know how it works out.

You'd better call first to see if they actually have what you're looking for. No HD dealer in this area has a Buell.
...dude you ride an offroad bike with slicks, 1/2 the weight of a GS, double the suspension, with a browning 50 cal going off 32" from your skull as a daily freaking driver - I'd expect anything except a nitro dragbike to be bland by comparison - SSG

Sorry if I'm restating the obvious, but you're aware Harley ceased production on these a few months ago, right? And that many of the dealers treated Buell customers like unwanted stepchildren to begin with?
Not necessarily a reason to avoid one, they are a steal - but since no one has actually mentioned it, I thought someone ought to, especially if you are counting on a dealer to service the bike.

It really depends on the dealer. I stopped in at Uke's in southern Wisconsin last month and they seemed very interested in continued support. They had a few steals on the floor and I had to walk away before I acquired a new Ulysses.
Good point, though. If you rely on dealer services, you really want to get the story from your local shop.

I'm not depending on a dealer to service my bike. I've got that handled. My only concern was getting ahold of one. So i'll probably call the dealership, and see what they have. If not, i'll just save my cash and wait for a good deal to pop up.
Oh and I live in nor-cal, and the closest dealership is in Reno, NV. I'm not concerned with the drive, it's nothing lol

Do too.
I was just going to ask where you were. There's a dealer in TN that's just about giving them away. Last month, they were in the $5-6k range.

The Sierras are a great place to ride, this bike will work well for you up there..Maybe you ought to hang out and do some sidewalk shopping if you come across a nice one in Reno - when the owner comes out of the casino wearing a barrel with suspenders you could make a deal!

Iv'e had an XB9 City x for five years and love my bike to bits. Two years ago it was crushed while parked by a seven and a half tonner and was off the road for eight weeks. While it was being fixed I used a 1200 Bandit on loan from the insurance company. When I got my Buell back it felt crude and agricultural in comparison to the Bandit but after riding twelve miles home I remembered why I bought it in the first place as I was grinning from ear to ear. I test drove the 1200 but stumped for the nine as you can nail it all day long without killing yourself which gives the grin factor. Only things to watch, is avoid spilling petrol on the plastic (cost me a fortune ) and start it all winter to avoid flooding it in spring ( changing the plugs is a bugger the first time you attempt it). Good luck, enjoy.

Don't know where you are in NorCal, if you're in Tahoe or Truckee Reno is your best bet, but Hall's Harley-Davidson in Chico used to have them.
