BMW Megamoto - Cool or Dorky?

Part of me really likes this bike, and part of me thinks it looks kind of dorky. What say you?

The front and rear don't look like they should be on the same bike...

A beemer, so I asume the price is at least 15k?

Agreed, and the front end looks raked out, but like Whipper, part of me really likes it.

Re: BMW Megamoto - Cool or Dorky?

I checked them out over the weekend. I think they are WAY cool. They come with a pneumatic rear shock and a level on the frame to precisely set preload to your load.

My local stealer had them with a set of dirt wheels and a (spoke) set of street wheels for $20k.

MSRP is over $21k.

I'm not sure I could pay more for that bike than a 1098...but I really want one! Only thing I see it needing is a screen.

Re: BMW Megamoto - Cool or Dorky?

If looks are your biggest issue, dont ride a BMW As for the air shock, that POS is a failure on the HP2 unless you ride like my grandma. Real offroad dirt use, it turns to mush in the whoops. When I pitted for the BMW teams for the '05 Baja 1000, we actualy replaced it with a Ohlins at mile 253 pits as the stocker was toast. Probaly not an issue on a street bike.

Yeah, but I was looking at the thing for trips down to that area with a certain Beemer rider I know...among other things.

21K? And why is it that their Sport Touring goes for $17K - $18K. I don't get it.

Re: BMW Megamoto - Cool or Dorky?

Can it be both?

Like the concept of the big bore super-supermoto, and parts of it look really cool ... and that BMW actually put it together ... but the limitation os the BMW design pieces make it look dorky, and with that much mass !?!?

I'll hold judgement until I see it, but still think I'll say both.

Re: BMW Megamoto - Cool or Dorky?

i would like to know what their designes smoke before they start to finish the look of the bikes. a friend of mine has one, not sure which model, but he abslutely loves it. he did have to have another motor put in it though, the one that was in it was a bad casting and oil was seeping out of the poores in the motor

yes. they were very good about taking care of it. they thought it was the oil pan at first so they changed that and when it kept leaking they said that they were goin to make it right so they decided to just change it and be done with it. he said it took them a while due to the fact that they had to have a motor sent over. in the end he got a new motor and a big smile on his face.

More or less, at least the boxer engines are. Oil cooled actualy, there is a small oilcooler up in front. The sport bike inline 4 is water cooled.
