    Meet Caroline

    Well...

I've been in and out for a while. The divorce and all that goes with it has really taken a toll. However.... I gave in to temptation this weekend. I joined the ranks of so many on this board and purchased the bike I've been longing for, for over 1.5 years now. The smiles this thing generates are almost as good as those my kids can carve into my face

FBO please, I'd like to introduce Caroline. Named after the land where my heart resides, South Carolina. Her blue is a perfect match....

My questions are many and vast. My immediate ones, what am I missing? I am planning on making some long hauls immediately and I figure I'll notice what is lacking quickly. However, I need tips. I have a Garmin hand held GPS, where can I get a mount? Whats the catalog of choice for accessories?

Geocaching with my kids will never be the same

Nice ride! You ought to be able to warm up your credit card at Touratech-USA Motorcycle Adventure Touring Accessories from Germany
I don't have any experience with the 1200's, but on my 1150 the two best upgrades I did was a seat, Corbin or Sargent are popular ones, and additional lights if you plan on doing alot of night riding. For GPS mounts, I like the RAM stuff.

.....and to the GS! You don't even realize how much you're going to love it yet!

Many start with some type of crash guard/cylinder protection. If you're going to be carrying the kids, do a search for a backrest or top-box with backrest.

Don't worry, the Advrider board will help you spend all of your money on the bike!

All of us eventually, they are the only motorcycle that can generate a VFR level of addictive ownership before you even buy it...terrible things

Glad you like it Crash, GFJ has said what I would say. I highly recommend Sargent over Corbin all day, if for nothing it looks better but it's an awesome seat. My rider/passenger are both Sargents

Look into getting a Hepco Becker crash bar. The link is for www.adventurersworkshop.com , they are a good place. The guy that runs the show there (Andrew) is a busy dude so be patient, but they will take care of you. Silver or gray looks nice, black picks up scratches, either will protect your jugs.

Try a throttleboss before upgrading to something expensive cruise-wise, you'll like it and it's cheap

RAM mounts..ahh, a hobby all unto itself I get most of my stuff at www.cyclegadgets.com. They usually stock most items and ship them fast. As for a GPS, well...enough threads on that already.

There is also www.newenough.com for your clothing needs. While not necessarily purpose for dual sport, I like the fieldsheer textile stuff they are carrying now (I own it). They also usually have some Sidi or other boots in their closeout section that will go well with the machine.

If you start getting into electronic fanglery...visit www.easternbeaver.com. Yes I know it sounds like something odd, but the link has some decent stuff. I got my Centech AP-1 and wiring harness from them.

As noted...the classified section of the advrider site is nothing shy of addictive. With so many gs owners, there is always something you need there Just make sure it works with the 08+ models. There were some subtle changes that prevent pre 08 items from fitting on it. There is also www.r1200gs.info for useful items.

Don't wonder why your bank account is always empty, it's not cause of the mileage

    Nice!

That is actually my favorite color available for GS's, too bad they don't offer it on the GSA.

I am quite sure you'll love that bike, I know I sure love mine!

lawl, or just find someone who likes your color/year and swap panels with em . That is a common occurance on adv I notice (seems to be more with tank panels than the beak portion).

Yes, I just sold my Sargent to a dude with a 2006 GSA. The million dollar question is, is there a diff in the 2008 to 2007 seats. I don't think the seats themselves are anything different in composition.

I'd be glad to put it in hand for an eval.

They rejected my inital attempts... but no fear.. I got in under SC_Crash all is well with the universe...

I have already picked out some routes to take, unfortunatly one seems to run through the 29 Palms MCAG Bombing Range . Judging by the amount of tank tracks and moon like craters... I'd venture to say it's still pretty active

I need to find the thread where I said some disparaging things about GS's about one year ago...because I need to swallow my pride and eat those words...because I'd like to have one.

The motard has convinced me that I'd love off-road capability in a long distance bike.
...dude you ride an offroad bike with slicks, 1/2 the weight of a GS, double the suspension, with a browning 50 cal going off 32" from your skull as a daily freaking driver - I'd expect anything except a nitro dragbike to be bland by comparison - SSG
