I've been watching too, but what I really want is for Ewan to whine less.

I haven't seen any of the vid, but I did manage to find LWR at the used bookstore one night, and he did seem pretty whiney in that even.

Based, on the show BMW needs to work on the rear shock or an aftermarket one is needed. 2 out of 3 have fails far.

I'm awaiting LWU ... from the tip of South America up to Alaska somewhere. That could prove to be ready rad, too. With less whining, of course.

Come on he is an actor after all, can you imagine the cuts that were not used. Like the one where he starts crying because the water is not Evian.

I was surprised how modest his house was.

Yeah, that was the discussion when I bought mine actually, the electronic stuff or no and get Ohlins.

I went with the ESA, though I also have no plans to ride to South America anytime soon...

I think that of these Epic Rides, the biggest loser is KTM...

I really wonder if you plotted out their sales of the 950 and now 990 Adventure were in anyway impacted by their decision to back out of the LWR. That scene in the first episode where Charley rips off the poster and they immediate get BMW on board, had to hit the Public Affairs guy at KTM like a bullet. Now, based on sales of the GS vs. Adventure I'm betting that someone at KTM... well is no longer at KTM.

If they do infact make LWU... I'm gonna follow that one and be one of those strap hanger ons to ride with'em as they finish

    Cause my GS is coming

If you went to South America, I would assume one would want to carry a gun. (lets face it, most of use can not afford a security guy) How do you get a permit for that? Or maybe hide it?

    edit:

No idea...I know you don't want to get caught carrying in Mexico.

In Long Way Round they kept breaking subframes... I haven't seen a subframe break in LWD yet.... Then again maybe they ride around with the luggage empty and let their entourage of 4x4s carry everything.

LWR was the 1150, they're quite a bit different.

Edit: Though in the book they mention they learned to get a bunch of heavy stuff out of their bags they didn't need.

Yes in the Book LWR and show, they get to a town just before the Road of Bones and decide, they didn't need half the crap they packed.

So impressed with the Mongolian folks who fixed Claudio's bike out in the middle of nowhere. Amazing story

Ohlins? they blow seals on these bikes

oh of course by 'these bikes' Im referring to the R-series GS's, not the K-series that you have, maybe there is a difference?

    Engine type
R - boxer engine, horizontally opposed flat twin cylinder
    K - in-line 3 or 4 cylinder water-cooled engine
    F & G - single or twin vertical cylinder water-cooled engine
I mean just cause the only reason for considering a GS is because of the awesome R powerplant, is no reason to give it it's due in a thread title or anything

Ummm, don't do it. Stay away from these things. They are evil, time consuming, addictive monsters. You really don't want anything to do with them. I mean, here you are going down this road and then, there is this dirt road so you turn down that, then there is some MUD, so ya just gotta hit that, a couple of times, then you see a single track, oh where does that go? Then you hit another dirt road, get back on the pavement, hit your favorite twisties like you OWN THEM, then cause you can, cross a stream or two. Hit the twisties on your way home and cause there is a big field behind your house you go get some more mud. Then cause you are tired, you just park it. Wash it off later but you never do. Ya take it to work in the morning covered in mud and slime and the Air Force E-3 Gate Guard give you that, "I am so jealous of you" look..

You don't need to be living with that guilt. Let me shoulder it for you.

I may have to try the book.

    The LWD video was awful.

The again, I really liked the LWR DVD and thought there was way too much whining in the book.

They also beat the crap out of the bikes by constantly dropping them.

Any sub-frame would have been stressed.

It was cool to see the "fixes" though.

Take them for what they are... they whine. Simple as that. I haven't seen the DVD of LWD yet, but in the book, there is whining for sure. Esp since Ewan feels rushed all the time and has an argument with Charley over not wanting to be rushed.

They are actors not Dr. Gregory Frazier (Master of the bike adventure). I am more interested in the experience they had and the places, I can mentally block out the whining if it's cool enough

*side note, read some of Dr. Frazier's stories. His done things that are unheard of. He took his bike apart and carried it through a snow covered pass piece by piece. Not the most thrilling author, but good reads with detail if you are planning an adventure.

Picked up the full set at the Bimmer dealer when picking up some other stuff yesterday.

Watched discs 1 and 2 of LWD. I thought it was great! I didn't think the whining was excessive. I know I've done my share of griping during much shorter journeys/adventures...and their schedule is too compressed, I'd end up fed up too.
