    New Rides

We drank the kool-aid and now are BMW owners.

    Here they are...

And long awaited. Kelly and I have been purging some items around our houses that have been just sitting. And this is what we ended up with in the end.

Mine is the solo silver one which is an 08 R 1200 GS, this baby came with

    Chrome exhaust pipe
    Enduro Electronic Suspension Adjustment (ESA)
    Heated hand grips
    On-board computer
    Hand protection
    Saddle bag mounts
    Integral ABS II (disconnectable)

Took it off road for a bit to get the feel of it without the ABS. One thing I will have to get used to is the adjusting the ESA through the menus. The tires that are one it are a little slippery in the dirt, just have to realize ya gotta take it easy on this thing, it is not a full on dirtbike.

Kelly's is a smaller version. The homo doing the fairy thing was her salesmen. Never saw the guy personally. Little light in the loafers if I do say so myself. Hers is an 06 F 650 and came the handgaurds, aftermarket exhaust, heated grips, and bags. She also has ABS that can be turned off. Last night she was looking over a flyer of off road adventures. Gotta her skillz up for some fire roading and other crossings but she will, as usual, do fine.

Reason for buying these bikes is exactly what they are intended for, to be traveling along, see a fire road and go on an excursion. Don't know who is more excited personally me or Kelly? She gotta a hold of a flyer I brought home last night about these two week excursions that go from Zion (yes its a real place and not just an underground city in the Matrix) to Moab that are 90% off road. Our first trip of this nature will be next week when we take the bikes to Convict lake with us. While up there we are going on multiple excursions to the Devil's Post Pile, Rainbow falls, Mono Lake and other points beyond the horizon. I will also be taking mine to the track the end of next month as in my opinion there is no finer place to get to know your machine than in the controlled environment of a track session.

The Bakersfield dealership is just awesome, their staff is second to none, more like a family then a motorcycle processing mill. Just awesome. Highly recommended.

Love to hang out and write more but, there are places to be explored. Oh, don't worry about the FEEJ, she will still get plenty of attention. She is my fat bottom girl and as we know, they make the rockin world go 'round.

    Later people,

    Dave

what do you need heated hand grips for? isn't 65° the lowest it ever gets?

Congrats on the bikes! You're going to love them!

Can't see from the pics, but the tires on the GS look like Tourances. Very good street grip and ok on dirt roads. They SUCK in sand.

I'm getting ready to switch to TCK-80's for a week of street and dirt-road riding in VT. They do well on the street, but wear quickly and can be a little slick in the wet.....but then again we have ABS!

    I use mine below 75.

It's amazing how much they help on longer trips to keep your hands loose and comfortable.

I think heated grips are one of the best additions I've ever put on a bike.

I was just messing with him about the weather out there cause of all the crap he's thrown this way about the cold and snow in the winter.

Everything is relative little man... it was 68 this morning went we took off. Stopped, helped the GF figure hers out and we were toasty till the temps rose above 80.

    All is well.

and oh... BMW hates vertically challenged people cause these things are TALL.

Put over 400 miles on them in the last three days. Everything from canyon dancing, slab and just a little bit of dirt, well sand. This thing is just awesome in the canyons. WOW can it hang on a turn.

The FEEJ is still the perferred long distance machine.

Just putting in my plug for heated grips (no pun intended.)

They should be standard equipment on every bike!

I wasn't thrilled with the GS's highway manners until someone told me to increase the pre-load on the rear suspension. HUGE difference.

I've noticed that just standing next to them. Looks like I'd need a block just to get on the damn things. I still think they are freakin awesome bikes and I like the styling although people say its ugly.

Congrats Mojave... Have had a coupla GS's in the barn the past 7-8 years. No bike has delivered more ride memories than the GS. As you note, there's something about knowing any road is fair game.

On my Adventure I can barely flat foot it if I'm in the lowest part of the saddle.

Unbelievably good on the twisties isn't it? My first weekend, which has been my only weekend on it since I busted my shoulder on my mt bike a few days after buying the Adv , had several sportbike guys scratching their heads.

The heated grips (and handguards) rock, no thick gloves for cold mornings.

    Duuude, congrats

FYI not sure if they fixed the throttle sticking ever so slightly when the heat is on, but if they did - undo the bar endcap and fit an oil change washer inside under the barend.

Im excited because I recently found the worlds only Maisto r1200gs in a retail store after years of looking, so now we have 2

These things truly rock. Easy to ride, comfy, rolls through the twisites with easy. Just put on my first farkly of crash bars. Like sliders but a little more protection for the heads. Planning on getting them out in the mud this weekend. See how they work. Can't wait. Taking the camera will post up any pics if we can.

Whatever you do dont be tempted to drop pressures if you can resist (at least on the big guy). It messes with your head bigtime back on the tar sections.

Also be careful with that clutch in the dirt...its a nice big dry clutch remember
