BMW Recalls/Updates (BMS-K , EWS aerial ring, Brake Line)
Hopefully this isn't a running/to be edited thread..but my 07 R1200GS (non Adventure) recently got a notified recall for it's brakelines. While in the shop they ran it through the computer and I was on the campaign for two other fixes.
All in all, the big list is:- BMS-K Software Update
- EWS Aerial ring replacement.
- Brake line replacement.

The first was a BMS-K software update, essentially a main ecu update. The biggest issues I had read from other owners of the same ride was issues of the fuel gauge reading inaccurately, problems with strange taillight faults, and most importantly - fueling issues (namely abruptness) at less than full throttle in the lower gears.
When I picked the bike up, I had been on a Triumph Scrambler for about 5 days. Noticing any change in the FI curve was not my primary focus, and just keeping myself from stalling it out was .
After putting about 20 miles on it in various backroads and traffic thereafter, I definitely noticed a big difference in lowend smoothness and much less harshness. I haven't ridden on any trails with it lately, but I suspect this might solve some of the 'afterburning' that occured in that environment, we'll see.
As for the taillight, I never had any weird bulb error messages. The fuel gauge however I noticed I now fill up and it's about 4 gallons. Before when my 'fuel' light/warnings came on, it was typically about 3.7. The trip computer seems to remain the same but did give me an mpg or two on the highway, (43-45 now rather 42-44).
All in all, the BMS-K software update gets my recommendation, I would definitely recommend getting it done.

Problem is, some people have come out to their bike and discovered the aerial ring module that goes around the key area has actually 'forgotten' their key tx codes, and have gotten to take advantage of the factory roadside support .
I fortunately wasn't one of these people, and had thought of buying a spare 40$ part (with a new p/n) just to have it on hand. When I viewed a list of the affected machines I saw my bike was on it though, so I was glad that this was already on their list of things to do.
It was done, and thankfully - I've noticed nothing different since I got it back
Thanks to MAXbmw for the jpg
I got the recall too. Going to get it done in Oct.
Did they let you keep the old one as a spare?

Last but certainly not least - the Brakeline replacement...here is the official notice from BMW below:

Manufacturer: BMW
Model Year: 2006 - 2007 - 2008
Models affected: R1200 R, R1200 GS, R1200 ST
NHTSA Campaign Number: 08V254000
Potential Units Affected: 3248
Problem: BMW is recalling 3,248 model year 2007-2008 R1200R, model year 2006-2007 R1200 GS and model year 2007 R1200 ST motorcycles. Due to the current routing of the front brake lines, it is possible that during riding, the brake lines could be under strain. If the vibration/strain is significant, the brake lines could split and start to develop a leak. If the leak became significant, brake fluid could escape. If this happened, the level of fluid in the reservoir of the front brakes could drop. If fluid level drops significantly, the front brakes could fail increasing the risk of a crash.
Corrective Action: Dealers will inspect and install new brake lines with a modified routing free of charge. The recall is expected to begin during June 2008. Owners may contact BMW at 1-800-831-1117.
Again, this is a recall I didn't notice . I did take a peek at the routing up front though and don't really see anything different. From what I've read it seems that the issues were mostly with the crimp at the fuel tank side cracking.
These are SS lines from the factory, and appear to be pretty beefy and pretty quality so I was suprised to hear this. Again, I checked the routing and clearance areas and the changes were not obvious even after looking at photos, so I am guessing there were some lines released with an impromperly degreed bend at a fitting or something.
I guess the one good piece of news is I got a free fluid flush at 4k miles

The first I've heard of the EWS problem was when I actually experiened it yesterday evening. My R1200GS Adventure is only 2 years old & got 7472 on the clock - hardly overused!
I'll be calling the local dealer this morning, so watch this space to see what they say.

They should pull up your vin and tell you anything else you've got hanging around for updates. I'd recommend the ECU update while you're in there, it seems to smooth out the lowend in traffic some

They shouldn't give you a hassle at all. It's a recall item.
Good luck.

Thanx for the quick comebacks guys, esp SomeStrangeGuy, I'll definitely ask the dealer about the updates.
The deal so far:
BMW UK roadside assistance refused to help me because the bike's 3½ months out of warranty. The local dealer said they'd have to run the diagnostics first, but if it is the EWS problem they'll see what they can do as a 'goodwill gesture', no promises as yet though. Meanwhile I'll have to pay the dealer's sub-contractor £65 to get the bike shipped about 4 miles to the dealership.
Further updates to follow as they happen.

The latest on this is that the bike has been at the dealer since Friday lunchtime, but they've yet to run it through diagnostics - apparently they only have one guy that knows how to use the machine & he's out of town!
I had an email reply from another dealer who told me it was the antennae ring & if I could tell them my details they'd confirm whether or not I'm on the recall list. I don't think my particular bike is on that list but I don't think that should be an excuse not to replace the part for free.
Further updates to follow, hopefully soon...
