Aprilia's New 750 Supermoto

In case the SXV550 isn't powerful or comfortable enough for you, here's a Hypermotard/KTM950 chaser for you:
Motorcycle Daily

Hopefully it won't have water in the oil after 1000 miles...

Re: Aprilia's New 750 Supermoto

Does the water stay with the water on this one? Or do the oil and water like to hook up?

Yet they stick with the gold frame... I guess they think this is going to be their "signature" on their bikes from here on out.

I really like it. It's a great looking bike and sounds like fun but with all the stories about parts shortages and maintenance issues I would have a hard time going with an Aprilla. Also 20 pounds heavier than a Hypermotard with less cc's?

For the day in day out riding that I do something like this would make a lot more sense than my bike, or the 848 that I want, but they just don't quite do it for me the same way. If I could have three bikes something like this would make it in. 848, VFR, some sort of motard.

Shoot - This thing looks like it might eat the Hyper alive. The 1100 cc DS is a relatively low-tech air-cooled lump, and only makes ~80 hp on a good day. I'm assuming the Aprilia will be fairly light, and at 95 hp it should be very, very quick.

Can't say I'm warming to the gold anodization thing, though.

According to Ducati the Hyper is rated at 95 hp at the crank and the Aprilla is claiming 92 hp at the crank. I would think it would be a similar difference at the rear wheel? 3hp isn't much but an extra 11kg is which is what the Aprilla is carrying if I'm reading everything right. By using an extra 300cc to make that 95hp it makes the Duc seem low tech but if they are getting the same job done with less weight then that's what counts right?

I missed the weight on the 'Priller until after I'd posted, that's an unpleasant surprise....

95 hp at the crank for the Hyper? I wish. Most guys are showing mid 70's RW on dyno. Even if we assume 15 hp chain loss, it's barely 90. The 95 must be special 'Ducati horsepower'.

I'm having to do a fairly major engine upgrade (cams, mild porting, full exhaust, performance air filter) to have a shot at ~100 RWhp.

Just put more Ducati stickers in it. Makes it faster and more expensive, albeit less reliable.

Also since the weights are "dry" the Aprilla will probably end up in even worse shape since you're going to have to figure in nearly a gallon of water that the air cooled Duc doesn't have to haul around.

I want a reliable twin that is more modern than the RC. There is candidates (KTM, Duc and Aprilia) but none inspire me due to maintainence and reliability

I just got word from Ducati that they're still working on their bulletproof clutch design.

I offered to test for them they ran away

Actually I like my RC a lot but the legendary RC61 would be lighter and faster and in my garage in a second. I cannot see a 1098 though the 800 is interesting. The new Aprilia is interesting but the dealerships are far away and not good from my intel reports. The KTM is cool but sounds like gen 2 might be the better option. In the meantime the RC is paid for and fun

The 1098's pretty darn reliable, and has a very good warranty compared to its predecessors. 1198's probably even better.

But it seems to require lots of maintainence and is above my pay grade
Also the add ons seem $$$ if I was faster it might matter but I got a lot to wring out of the RC still
