The Aprilia 12 month test ride

It's only for scooters, but still a heck of a gamble on their part.
Aprilia USA has an offer that you just can’t refuse. If you’ve been tempted to join America’s rapidly growing scooter community but your plans have been on idle because you’re not sure whether you were born to ride, the time to discover your inner scooteristi is right now. Effective today, Aprilia invites consumers on a risk-free 12 Month Test Ride, an industry-first program that offers qualified buyers the opportunity to experience all the fun, savings and environmental benefits of an Aprilia Sportcity 50, Aprilia Sportcity 125, Aprilia Scarabeo 100 or Aprilia Scarabeo 200 without a long-term commitment. The 12 Month Test Ride offer includes the option to return the scooter to participating Aprilia dealers after 365 days of ownership if the buyer decides that the two-wheel lifestyle just isn’t right for them after all.

"It’s our mission to remove any roadblocks keeping even more Americans from discovering just how much money and time they can save, and how much fun they can have, by adding two wheels to their garage,” said Paolo Timoni, President and CEO, Piaggio Group Americas. “The economic, environmental and lifestyle benefits of scooters are proven on a daily basis in major marke ts around the globe, and we think this hassle-free introduction to scooter ownership is a risk-free way for U.S. consumers to take a trial membership in our American scooter nation.”

Timoni believes that newcomers to the scooter lifestyle will quickly be convinced to make two wheels a permanent addition to their personal transportation fleets. Existing scooter owners already know that life on two wheels delivers fun and thrills. Practical benefits such as an average 70 mpg fuel economy and an average ownership and operating cost savings of $6,000 per year provide even more incentive to ride. With the majority of American households still owning two, three or more vehicles, swapping just one set of four wheels for two is an immediate solution to rev up personal savings while throttling back on foreign oil dependence, urban congestion and carbon dioxide emissions.

The 12 Month Test Ride is open to buyers who qualify for a 36-month closed-end finance term through an approved financial institution. To take advantage of the offer, the purchase must be completed by July 31, 2009. The risk-free return guarantee requires the completion of 12 scheduled loan payments and excludes upfront license, vehicle preparation, freight and tax fees as well as a 10% down payment based on the vehicle’s manufacturer’s suggested retail pricing.

You meet the nicest people on an Aprilia. Usually during looooooooooooong discussions while in the waiting room of the repair department, but still....

Makes sense. 2 weeks of riding, 50 weeks of waiting for parts.

But seriously don't they/didn't they produce some 250 2-stroker monster of scooter once?

    That could be fun ...

Their two stroke GP bike that took Max and Valentino to titles and got Honda and Yamaha to walk away was indeed a monster, but road bikes aren't supposed to get stripped down and rebuilt every 10 laps...

    Didn't they buy Piaggio scooters?

I think its the other way around. Aprilia operates under the Piaggo Group banner ... I think.

In fact, my good friend up here in The Big Sky looked at trying get the Ape flag to sell bikes, but to do so, you first had to sell Piaggo/Ape scoots for x-amount of time and move a certain number of units before they'd even consider giving you their sport bikes.

Out here the dealer had to agree to sell bikes to get the scooters. They were pissed because they couldn't sell the bikes, and Aprilia wasn't restocking the scooters.

I'd love to get my hands on an RS250. I had a go on several in the UK, and they are bonkers! Unfortunately, being a 2 stroke, I don't think it was ever available to buy here in the states, though I could be wrong. I'd have to import one in from Europe most probably, and even then I could only use it as a track bike .

My brother, his wife, and my wife are researching this further. I don't think there is an Aprilia dealer in Iowa though.
...dude you ride an offroad bike with slicks, 1/2 the weight of a GS, double the suspension, with a browning 50 cal going off 32" from your skull as a daily freaking driver - I'd expect anything except a nitro dragbike to be bland by comparison - SSG

Exact opposite here. The dealership in Boise that used to sell them (and serviced mine), also a Ducati/BMW/Triumph dealer, didn't want the scooter line so Aprilia dumped them. Now I have to go to Portland (6 1/2 hours away) for service.
