That's it. I'm leaving. I'm getting stationed back in Europe if I have to burn every bridge in existence.

Unfortunately that is also Race day at Vallelunga, for the World Superbike round. Maybe they will have one there as well.

I just looked at the address and I am looking at an apartment on that Plaza tomorrow. Unfortunately the one I pick in Trastevere was rented at a higher price after we already agreed on a price.

Supposed to be... there are lots of speculation and test track pics, but they almost always have mule farings on, or things taped up, so we can't see what it's going to look like in the end. If that video showed it, then you can shut me up... I can't watch YouTube out here.

you didn't miss anything in that video but the visceral experience... Nothing really to see there.

Too bad it's made by Aprilia.

A local dealer is doing its best right now to try and force them to meet their commitments on scooter shipments and support (by blowing out all their bikes and not re-ordering), and the problems bwhip had with his 550 aren't exactly confidence inspiring.

If anyone wants a 'Priller near invoice cost, I have a hook-up for you.

Bad press.

The issues with the early 550's and 450's are well documented. However, the newer models seem to have benefited from the fixes. One of the primary problems with that motor is that it was designed by Aprilia prior to the Piaggio buyout. With Piaggio's assistance, I have a lot more confidence in the product. I haven't heard of any issues with the Shiver or Mana powerplants and those were mills developed jointly by both Aprilia and Piaggio.

Good Aprilia dealerships are few and far between. With the mix between high-end performance bikes and scooters, it's hard to find a dealer that will commit to the entire product line. Especially for a brand with such minimal market share.

No question I am biased but I think the weak link in the whole scheme of things is the dealer network.

Actually, anyone can have an issue with a new model, so I don't really hold that against them.

It's how they dealt with it that bothers me.

They have the balls to build neat bikes, but their support is very....Italian.

Honestly? THE thing that stopped me from picking up a new '08 RSV 1000R Factory, was the poor service Whip received (continues to receive). I'm scared of a company that won't back its products correctly... WHATEVER the reason may or may not be for failing to do so.

They had a Factory on the floor in all its carbon covered, gold framed glory if you're interested.

It is a neat bike, but I'd tear it down and get the frame polished or powdercoated.

Haha, yeah it was ugly I'll give you that. But I was thinking of it from track bike standpoint not a bike to ride around on the streets. Its physical size (certainly felt larger than other sportbikes on the market) seemed to fit quite well with my "Baby Huey" size. I mean, I'm the first to admit that I both LOOK and FEEL lame on these 'tiny' bikes. So the idea of a bike that fits me better was appealing. Just not appealing enough to override my concerns that their factory-support service, from what I've read, isn't quite up to snuff.

And gold powder-coated rims 4tw, man!

Yep. With just a couple hundred miles on the clock since they "fixed" the water-in-the-oil issue last time, it's back in the shop again for the same problem. They are due to do some "testing" on it this week to see how many hours I've put on it since the fix, to see how they might respond this time. I've never loved a bike so much yet been so frustrated by it all at the same time before.

Indeed. But wtf is up with stock exhausts lately? Is there a design competition to build the ugliest exhaust on a production bike?? Seems like Kawi and Aprilia are battling for the lead!

Beyond sexy. The third headlight is a bit confusing to me. Center low beam, outer high beam - a la 929/954?

And all this begs the big question... How much? I'm betting $25k.

I know some who would consider that a big selling point

Very cool machine. Is the race bike a factory option?
