Also - the youtube vid is the "R", not the "Factory" that has been touted from day one. As was mentioned back on page 4, this is the "one for the masses"...

screw the one for the masses. if that's the tame one I can't imagine what the full on one is like but I know I'd enjoy it either way.

Current rumor has the Factory at $22k and the "R" at $14k.
Nothing official, though. First ones across the pond will be Factory models with the "R" to show up probably late next year.

All hype and unrealistic expectations aside, it looks like a blast to ride. Maybe they'll make a sport touring platform from that engine.

Wishful thinking but probably not reality. I spoke with one of the Aprilia USA guys at the BBQ in Indy and the thought process is that the Mana 850 / Shiver 750 engine was designed as a much larger capacity mill and will be developed in the next gen sport tourer. I don't think they'll go the Futura route, though. I'm afraid it may be something along the lines of a Mana / Shiver evolution
According to that source, nothing for another year or two in the ST works.
I'd love to see a V4 Futura but it just makes too much sense...

RSV4 R (base model) $15,999
RSV4 Factory $20,999
The adjustable geometry on the Factory is present on the R model but requires special tooling to make adjustments - tooling that is only provided through Aprilia USA if you purchase the Factory. Translation: you don't get to monkey with the engine height, rake, etc. if you have the R model. I think that's a good thing.

I recall a tale about Jerry Burgess welding shut a bunch of the adjustment points on the early Yamaha M1 990 racebikes.

I don't think those prices are egregious given the intended competition; they ought to compare favorably with the Ducs, and if someone wants a more sporting V4 than the 2010 VFR, it will be right in the ballpark. Kinda. Though the guys that are slagging the VFR appear to make their decisions based on whether they can use Rotella on the chain, or if they can squeeze that last 20 oz of gasoline in there.
I hope the build quality and reliability is good, especially given the sparse dealer network.

Given past models, I believe it will be (with regards to the RSV / Mille line). The Factory that I saw back in August looked to be very high-end build quality and that really isn't a fluke. One of the cycle rags touted the Mille a few years ago as being "the best japanese bike built in Italy" and I'm sure that Piaggio wouldn't have recinded that trait.
It's good to see that the new V4 mill has a full race season under it's belt and I hope that bodes well for reliability of the street models.
I think you're right on with the demographic - this looks to be a good trackday edition V4.

hell those prices seem almost like a bargain.

That's what I was thinking. For the money it seems like a very impressive machine. I'd love to have one but have no business being on a bike with that amount of power.

THe Mille had a Rotax motor... the RSV4 motor, like that of the SXV, is built in-house.

True, but the V4 effort has Piaggio involvement. The SXV motor was developed prior to the acquisition. I see them as comparing apples and oranges.

I hope they make it while I'm still in SC and have a dealer 5 min away. Otherwise it's a long drive to a dealer.
