Maybe not as good, but of all the car companies, Ferrari is the best at supporting their old cars. You can still order practically any part for one from the factory.

Yes. That's how I want to build "my" Duc when the day comes.

Doesn't it come with monoblocks though?

I've seen it pictured with a couple different styles of Brembo caliper, neither one is what I'm talking about.

Something different than the monoblocs that Ducati uses?

    These

    $1900 each.

Those appear to be the super-ultra Brembo monoblocs, titanium hardware, race-spec seals, narrow band, etc.

Not sure if they're worth twice the price of the OEM-spec version, though...

Yes they are...I'd buy 'em, if they fit into the budget somehow.

Well, I definitely understand the attraction, but years of purchasing and maintaining tens of thousands of dollars (or zillions of lira) of Italian baking machinery has done a great job of inuring me to the charms of Italian bikes.. I have simply said " This is why I will never own a Ducati" too many times.

And a huge percentage of those I know who have them have egregious parts availability or maintenance and repair issues with them. Not so much the MV's but certainly the Benellis, Ducatis and Aprilias.

But, as Jules Winfield says, "If you wanna play blind man, then go walk with the Shepherd. But me, my eyes are wide fuckin' open."

If the Japanese saw fit to give us a modern one, I'm sure we'd all be right there. But they don't.

    Nicely done.

I'm digging the newest (August?) issue of Britain's Two Wheels Only (soon to be re-branded as Visordown).

There's a lovely comparo of current literbike exotica, comparing the MV Agusta F4R-312, the KTM RC8, Ducati 1198S, and the RSV4. Mmmmm.

The very next page after that article, there's a brief comparo on why one might choose the RSV4 vs the newest CBR1000RR (or why not).

Interestingly enough, the RSV4 was not the winner of the exotica comparo.

They also referred to the RSV4 as the RC30 of today...

I take it the 1198S won?

Yep. Most refined, unbelievable motor, great brakes. They loved the RSV too, but found it much more suited to track use.

Ducati really did it with this platform, you definitely have one of the all-time greats out in the garage.

Thanks. I'm pretty happy with it, that's for sure, especially since the off-season mods that made it more competitive with the 1198 version - the 1098R crank, high-comp pistons, offset triples, shock link, etc. I just need to make it lighter so that when NorthernRR is pushing it back to the paddock after stalling it, it isn't so much work for him.

Since I didn't take enough Aprilia abuse at the hands of the MCAdx Moto GP crew, I figured I'd post up a few pics of the RSV4 that was on display at the Owners BBQ Saturday night.

Cool, wonder how long until it's making milkshakes for the new victim, I mean, owner.

There's lots of 'lectronic whizbang stuff to go tango uniform...

If that's not enough, the chassis is infinitely adjustable - eccentric cam in the steering head to change fork angle, the engine can be adjusted vertically to raise or lower CG and the swingarm is adjustable both vertically and horizontally. Too much to fiddle with IMHO.

It sounds pretty fargin' sweet though.

"priced competitively with Ducati" - no further details available but it's a bargain at twice the price!

With regards to the CF - probably, as that was the Factory model. Thank heavens they didn't give it a gold frame.

It is small - to my un-trained arse, it felt much like the CBR 600 I sat on earlier in the day at the Honda tent with regards to size, weight and "stationary imagined flickability".

Are they comparing pricing to the Desmosedici, 1098R, 1198S, or 1198 though?
