Fasttrax at Nelson May 20th, 2007
Had a great day actually! Had a great battle w/ two different dudes over the day, which is pretty nice b/c I rode around by myself a lot last year. I was able to get the best of both of them at least once throughout the day. I chased ne guy all on an R6 day and was able to pass him in the Unlimited Superbike race. The other races, he got me. In the Superbike 600 race, I got held up dicing w/ a guy on a SV 650 and he disapeared. The guy on the SV would pass on the outside of T4 (Stanley) and I'd go by him like he was standing still coming out of the carousel then hold him off until Stanley again. On the last lap I was able to hold him off to take 4th place (out of 7 novices).
Best lap of the day came in GT1 (the run what'cha brung class) of 1:16:985. Class: Unlimited Superbike Finishing position: 5/8 Best lap: 1:17:254 Class: GT1 Finishing position: 8/9 Best lap: 1:16:985 Class: GT1 Finishing position: 4/7 Best lap: 1:17:068 My race buddy Jim had a mechanical in the Formula 40 race and DNF'd. Bike was hosed and didn't race the rest of the day so I got to use his tire warmers. Man I was really surprised how much of a difference they make! I'd just bought some used one's, but hadn't gotten them yet. I've now got a generator in the mail and I'm considering upgrading the tires I'm using. I've been real happy w/ the Dunlop 208's that I've been getting real cheap 2nd hand, but I'm starting to wonder if I wouldn't find time by moving from a track day tire to a full DOT race tire. I'm pondering the Michelin PPR's. It'll require some geometry changes, but nothing I shouldn't be able to handle. Until next time, peace and good Karma. Thank you to all sponsors. Those little battles are fun, no matter what place you're in.
As for your "Fishing Positions", does that have anything to do with being a YPS?
