Ever see the movie "The Ref"? It's from the phone call Denis Leary makes to the bar looking for his partner . . .

I'm beginning to think the same about the Nextel Cup regulars running the Busch races.

the difference being they are all professional racers and there are no current limits in the rulebooks concerning who is "too good" to race...

The line in the movie is:

Is there a "Waste a' fuckin life" named Murray there? I don't think the word "of" is in Leary's vocabulary.

Re: WAFLs

When GLRRA first started in 1996, they had an event at Mid Ohio before the AMA races for three days. The AMA regulars got wind of this and many decided to use our event as practice. On the final day with several championships up for grabs, 95% of the AMA pros (and I'm talking factory teams in EVERY CASE) pulled off on the final lap of each race so the people who were paying the bills could finish the race in the money/points.

A few notable exceptions occurred and in 3 different money events, the number 2 AMA 250 rider took away $1000.00 from GLRRA regular Larry Cohee who finished in second place in the 125/250 GP (while the AMA championship leader, Rich Oliver pulled off in the last lap). The same thing happened in the HW Supersport where 2 AMA leaders took home the lion's share of the purse in this regional series.

The best part of the weekend was watching Kevin Graham hand both of them their asses in the MGP and along with Larry Denning, put both of them out of the money . . .

Not a bad idea to subsidize the race budget.

That's how I've been doing it. Wife gives the kids' their lunch money and I mug 'em as they walk out the door.

It's not much but every penny helps.

Based on what I heard at the track this past weekend...they had better stick to hangin at the local elementary schools....I think they might get hurt if they go back to the track anytime soon.
