    Any one use pit boards?

Just curious if anyone cons crew into coming and keep a board during races? If so was it useful? Yes I know it could be hard coded to "pull the #$@$ anchor up"

I "did" the pitboard for an AMA privateer at a couple of races.

It is helpful, if your pitboard guy/gal understands what they're supposed to be doing.

I really don't want to know. I know how far the guy in front of me is and he's the only thing on my mind. If I can hear the guy behind I know he's close, If I can't hear him I don't give a damn how far he is.

I've tried it for one race and did not care for it, as LTL said though it might have been the gal not doing properly.... (no it was not V)

All good points. The only thing is that the classes I run have three groups together. The twins are easier as white is not me and little bikes aren't either. The 40's group is harder though. When I got put in the trap I got on and passed quite a few people back but ended up almost last (40 seconds on the first lap is tough to come back from when you are slow ) However most of the bikes wound up being the other group. seems like it might be nice to know how far out the next one is and whether you are loosing or gaining. No worries as right now my crew is all riding the RC with me

I agree with Jetb, you can see how far you are behind someone and you can hear, even with ear plugs, someone thats right behind you. Lap times really dont matter DURING a race. If you are behind someone, then you just have to catch him...period. Its nice to know what you were running afterwards. I had a spotter a few times, and I just nodded my head as I went past them, making them feel a part of my race. However, I was fully aware of where I was in the race and I knew what I had to do...

A few times my brother would spot for me, with a stop watch. If I was not riding as fast as he knew I could, when I approached him, he would show me the stop watch, then stick his finger in his mouth, letting me know that my times SUCKED! If I was riding well, he only gave me a 'thumbs up'. If I was behind someone, he knew I could beat, he would give me the "jacking off" hand signal, then point to the guy in front of me... I laughed the rest of the way down Grattan front straight!

It can be helpful, but a lot depends on the track. For example, on the east track at Miller, turn one comes up really quickly, and it's a really tight turn. It's pretty tough for me to look over to the pit wall as that's approaching when I'm concentrating on braking at the very last possible moment. If someone could be closer to the other end of the straight with it, that might work. On the full track it would be easy because there is such a long straight.

I'm usually reluctant to look back behind me to see how close the next guy is, because I'm worried it will slow me down. I have had times where I've just assumed they were right on my tail, and maybe pushed harder than I should, as they were quite a way back.

I know of someone who could have benefited from at least signs, if not a board, at an Oak Hill race recently. He was first and the next guy was about two or three seconds behind. He kept pushing hard and ended going off track. Got back on and still ended the race third, I believe. Might have been my fault for not coming up with some kind of signal.

I am thinking cases like this (I seldom here others on the RC) and where I am well in front of 3rd and 1st is how far out? I have a tough time guessing distance/laptime at Barber... maybe I need to study some tape to figure seconds per straight

thanks for the feedback all. Even CBRVFR with the color coding...Hammer in red though

I think your bikini would have been too distracting if you had been any where near my visual plane.

I have used hand signals from my crew before to help communicate whats going on behind me. As mentioned before you can see whats in front of you and if someone is right on your ass you can usually hear them. Here is the system I've used to know how hard I need to push in an important race.

Hands wide apart = big lead

Hands close together = slim lead

Hands moving wide to close = someone closing on you

Anyone remember the pic of the MX pit board held up by a rider's GF with something like "Win = blowjob"?

No. But best. pitboard. message. ever.

Pink met professional motocross racer Carey Hart at the 2001 X Games in Philadelphia. Pink proposed to Carey in 2005 during one of his pit boarding races in Mammoth Lakes, California by holding up a "Will you marry me?" sign. On the other side was written "I'm Serious!" After Carey read the sign, he almost caused an accident

I can tell you, the guys running the pitboards at the AMA races definitely mess with other riders, and the shit talking to each other is deep before the green flag.
